What I Read
I learned about this book when reading Tools of Titans by Tim Ferris. On his podcast, he talked with Jocko Willink (Former Navy Seal) and Jocko recommended the book. Written by Primo Levi, If This Is a Man and The Truce, is an eye-opening description of life in concentration camps. Reading this book has really changed my outlook. When I feel like I have it bad in some way I just think of the words and descriptions in this book and they seem to go away.
What I Learned from a Podcast
On the HubermanLab podcast, I learned that most of a person’s salt intake comes from bread. Here is a link to an article I found later: Bread Might Be The Saltiest Part Of Your Diet, According To A New Study
My Take
Now on a more somber tone, today also made me think of the terrible situation in Texas where the unthinkable happened again. Seeing the children of the family that received the she-shed for their generous donation to the Heart Gala playing in the backyard made me think of the 19 children who had their lives cut way too short.
At our company when issues arise and nothing like what happened in Texas, we all get together to find solutions. We don’t all agree on the next step or solution, but we work together to solve the problem in the best way we can for our customers
Our children in many ways are customers of our government. Our government is elected by us. So in the end we need to make our government work together.
The political parties need to work like our small and large businesses. When a problem needs to be solved they need to get in a room. Shut the door. Give and take as necessary to do what needs to be done to solve or drastically improve the situation. If they sincerely want to serve they would not try to win at this moment. They would realize protecting Americans and most importantly our children are part of why we voted for them in the first place. They would realize no person or party have all the answers, but if they were open to working together without blaming others for crazy acts and took the time to really consider all aspects of this tragedy they would hopefully find common ground.
If protecting our kids doesn’t bring them together over protecting their ideologies then I believe our system is doomed and our children are pawns in the continuing fight between politicians.
I ask all politicians to be charitable in giving their best effort to help our children feel safe and to protect them as much as possible by forgetting ideologies at this time and focusing on bipartisan solutions. I ASK ALL POLITICAL CANDIDATES AND ELECTED OFFICIALS to realize your actions and behaviors have a great effect on the lives of all precious children and act like you know that each and every day.
Ask yourself do our children deserve your best effort to mitigate differences, find solutions and protect our children.
I am hoping you all can come together and protect our children. Nothing will be perfect, but know we can do better and we should do more than blame the other side.
I am a very average person, but I believe being average, caring, and willing to let others have good ideas is better than being in power and always blaming others and trying to win.
BHS Update
At the end of May, I participated in an American Heart Association ribbon cutting for a she-shed we donated for their 2021 Heart Gala. We had a sign there thanking all that contributed material or labor to the cause and I want to thank them officially.
Pella Windows and Doors, Beisser Lumber Company, ABC Supply Co., Nick’s Painting Plus, Pro1 Construction, and Hugos Gutters all were happy to help a great cause. Our team members were so grateful to be involved and are very excited we committed to doing it again in 2022. Heart health has affected many of our team member’s families and friends so we hope we can help by generating generous donations to the cause.
This also reminded me of the other times we have donated our team’s time to do other charitable acts. In 2020 during a very cold spell, we also helped local charities. Instead of having our field staff sit at home and not get paid we decided to have them help the Food Bank of Iowa, Ronald McDonald House, and others. Our team appreciates the opportunity to help and they did and got paid by us to help others.
Now I want to ask our customers and friends to help us find more ways to help the community that has given us the great pleasure of serving you by improving your homes.
We are now committed to doing quarterly charitable giving. All I ask is that you let us know the charities that you believe in by emailing info@bureshhomesolutions.com and recommending great local charities we can help by donating or helping with work that needs to be done or packing food for the needy.
